Merry Christmas!

Here's my Christmas present for you all:

(as you may have guessed by now, this is one of my favourite singers).

"Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" is a song written by John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Released in 1971, it is a protest song against the Vietnam War. Back in 1969 John and Yoko had rented billboards and posters in eleven major cities around the world that read: "WAR IS OVER! (If You Want It) Happy Christmas from John and Yoko"  As you'll see in the video, children of the Harlem Community Choir helped in the recording.
Through the years, it has become a traditional song to celebrate peace and love.
And that is why I've chosen it for you.

Below, there's an online exercise with the lyrics if you feel like practising a bit, too!

Phonetic Games

On this website you'll find 13 on line games to practise phonetics.
I strongly recommend it to student teachers struggling with PHONETICS I.
It can also be used in class, with students, after some introduction to phonetic symbols, of course.

A prank call is a phone call which is made with the intention of making a practical joke. Some prank calls are innocent and silly. Others are not. This one is indeed quite sweet.

Any resemblance to real life is purely coincidental...

Just for fun...

Some language comments...

What do the following expressions mean?

1.  a wrecking ball
2.  a ballpark figure
3. 'Could you blow it up or knock it down?' (What's the difference?)

So over the bridge from Flushing to the Sheffield's door,

Funny Stuff

Have a quick laugh!
(...and revise some every day vocabulary at the same time)

Have you ever wondered..?

Why is it that people say they "slept like a baby" when babies wake up every two hours?

If a deaf person has to go to court, is it still called a hearing?

Why do we press harder on a remote control when we know the batteries are flat?

Why do banks charge a fee on "insufficient funds" when they know there is not enough?

Why does someone believe you when you say there are four billion stars, but check when
you say the paint is wet?

Why do they use sterilized needles for death by lethal injection?

Why doesn't Tarzan have a beard?

Why does Superman stop bullets with his chest, but ducks when you throw a revolver at him?
Why do Kamikaze pilots wear helmets?

Whose idea was it to put an "S" in the word "lisp"?

If it's true that we are here to help others, what are the others doing here?

Do married people live longer than single ones or does it only seem longer?

How is it that we a put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?
